Introduction

Grouped under the category of loop diuretics, Torsemide is a drug available under prescription for assisting the reduction of the amount of water in the body in certain conditions, such as congestive heart failure, severe liver disease (cirrhosis), or kidney disease and works by acting on the kidneys to increase the flow of urine. Torsemide is a white to off-white crystalline powder and comes as tablets for oral administration under the brand name of Generic Generic Demadex. Generic Generic Demadex tablets constitute of lactose NF, crospovidone NF, povidone USP, microcrystalline cellulose NF, and magnesium stearate NF.

Drug Indications

Generic Generic Demadex tablets are indicated for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic disease. These tablets are also indicated for the treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.

Mechanism of Action

Torsemide acts by inhibiting the Na+/K+/2CI--carrier system from within the lumen of the thick ascending portion of the loop of Henle. The diuretic activity of any drug is correlated with the rate of drug excretion in the urine than with the concentration in the blood.
